Hi,
Sorry for all of the emails today, but there are a lot of pieces that need to come together with just a few days until the play! We are asking that each cast and crew member donate 3 dozen cookies for the cookie sale. Please bring your donations to the cookie table in the lobby on Thursday, Nov. 15, any time after 6 p.m. Thank you! NH Drama Parents Coordinators Hello Drama Club Parents, I am in the process of putting together the basket auction fundraiser for the Fall play, and I could really use your help! If anyone is a business owner or knows any business owners, or if you know anyone who is involved with any local sports teams (Steelers, Penguins, or Pirates), we could use gift cards of any denomination or any type of merchandise to put in our baskets. Please let me know if you are able to help in any way! In order to avoid duplicate requests, please note that I have already filled out online request forms or sent emails to the following businesses: Wahlburger's Jason's Deli Monte Cello Laser Storm Pines Plaza Lanes The Barre Code Code Breakers West View Floral Shoppe Children's Museum Carnegie Science Center Heinz History Center I am attaching a donation request form, in case anyone would like to e-mail it or present it in person to any businesses not listed above. Heather Geyer has generously agreed to donate a Mary Kay product and facial certificate for the basket auction, and Angela Arlia has been kind enough to agree to put together a basket. Thank you so much to both of you! A big thank you also goes out to Chris Nolan and Chris Kubala, who have agreed to coordinate putting together a lottery tree that will be auctioned off along with the baskets. We would like to request that each cast and crew member donate one $1 scratch off lottery ticket(higher dollar amounts will also be accepted!). Please have your students give the lottery tickets to Sean Nolan or Josh Kubala at practice by October 31. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for all of your help! Payments were already included in your fall play $50 cast dues; no need to send in additional money. Parents and students, use this Election Day Bake Sale link to sign up for a slot to sell baked goods on Tuesday, November 6. This is our big fundraiser for the fall play. We are asking that each drama club family brings in THREE DOZEN baked goods. Baked good donations can be dropped off on Monday, November 5 during set construction from 2:15pm-5pm. Check out the Props Google Doc for the fall play, The Beverly Hillbillies. Please add your name next to an item if you own it or can acquire the item. There will be a Fall Play (The Beverly Hillbillies) parent meeting on Monday, Sept. 24 at 7pm in the auditorium. We will discuss the following items:
Some general information/reminders: Students have until the end of the month to start earning their shop hours – set builds or hair/make-up/costume assistance on Saturdays and Mondays. At the end of September, we will compile a list of students officially committed to the production to create the back of the show t-shirt. Students who fail to turn in signed contracts or have not attended any set build dates by the end of the month will NOT have their names on the backs of the shirt. They also may be dismissed from the production. Cast payment #1 was due today, September 17 (either $25 first installment or $50 full installment). Checks made out to NHHS, with the memo line stating “Drama Club.” This payment, as outlined in the contract, covers t-shirt, DVD, cast party, luncheon, and miscellaneous performance needs like make-up orders. Stage Crew AND Hair/Make-up/Costume crew payments are due by October 22 (full $30 payment). Checks made out to NHHS, with the memo line stating “Drama Club.” This payment, as outlined in the contract, covers t-shirt, DVD, cast party, and luncheon. If your child is a NEW member of the cast or is running out of their Ben Nye show make-up kit materials, please check the link here. We are looking at the $20 theatre kits for new performers. The student needs to check in with costumer designer, Ms. Fairley, and/or the members of the hair/make-up/costume crew, to determine his/her foundation color. Ms. Fairley & the crew are available in person on Mondays or Saturdays. If your child needs a replacement of just foundation or eyeliner, he/she needs to indicate that to Ms. Fairley or a member of that crew, as well. We will record this information on their measurements sheets and put in an online order by the end of the month. We pay for this out of our Drama Club account. Remember that all information distributed at our student Drama Club meetings can be found in digital form on our website – http://www.nhchoiranddrama.net/ usually within a day of the meeting. Extra hard copies are organized in folders on the bulletin board in the choir room. Please visit! Lastly, get daily updates/texts in real time by joining our Remind App messaging groups @nhhsdrama and, for info specific to the fall play, @bevhills18. Thanks, Lauren Sarazen, NH Drama Program Director Drama Club Families,
We would just like to clarify something that was put on the agenda at the parent meeting last week that may have been confusing or misleading. As it has been in the past (most years we have this issue), there is a direct conflict with the rehearsals for the PMEA Honors Band festival and a day of our performances. PMEA policies state that a student must fully participate in the entire festival once they commit to going and are only excused from rehearsals in very rare instances. Mr. Lavelle clarified for us that it is common for our North Hills students to audition for the ensemble and then choose not to participate in the actual festival for a variety of reasons, but that the audition is important in that it assures band students an auto-bid into the PMEA District Band festival later in the year. It was not our intent to say that a student shouldn’t go to the audition – just that if they are cast in the show after our auditions later this week, or participate in the performances in some way on the crew/stage managing/etc. that would conflict with PMEA, that they should decline participation in the festival. Students make this choice every year, and if participating in the PMEA festival is a priority for them, they typically choose not to audition for the play or they volunteer to help with set construction or some less demanding part of the production. If a student was selected for a lead role, rehearsed for a month with the cast, and then informed everyone after Honors auditions that they would not be performing the shows, that would force a situation where a re-cast would be necessary. So, band students, by all means, please audition and we hope you do well enough to be put on the auto-bid list for Districts! Also, there was a misprint on at least one of the handouts… the choir and drama website is www.nhchoiranddrama.net, not choir@drama. An autocorrect took over or something! We hope you check the website often, as we will post all handouts, announcements, and the calendar for easy access. We’re looking forward to auditions this week, and the start to a great year in the drama club! Thanks, Mr. Cloonan & Ms. Sarazen Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much to everyone who attended last night's Drama Club Parent Meeting. It sounds like it's going to be a great year, with some new and exciting changes to the program and opportunities for the students! If you were unable to attend, all of the handouts can be found on the North Hills Choral Music and Drama Programs website, under the Forms tab. There you can find last night's agenda, as well as a Semester 1 Tentative Calendar. Be sure to check the website often for updates about all aspects of the drama program. We lost one of our Drama Club Parents coordinators this year due to a school transfer, and the remaining coordinators, as well as some parents who have headed up many of our other volunteer efforts, have kids who are seniors this year. So throughout the year, we will be looking for parents of younger students to shadow us so that there is a seamless transition next year. THANK YOU to everyone who offered to help at the meeting, and to those of you who have already emailed with offers to help! Within the next few weeks, we will be sending out more details about the types of volunteer positions and items that are needed as we prepare for the fall play. We are looking forward working with all of you to make this a wonderful year! North Hills Drama Parents Coordinators Dear Drama Club members and parents, As summer approaches, you might be looking for classes, camps, or other opportunities to focus on musical theater skills improvement. Lauren Sarazen, who's part of the North Hills directing team and an acting teacher at North Hills, is repeating her popular five-day camp at Vincentian Academy this summer. This year's camp will be held August 6-10. In previous years, many students from North Hills have attended and enjoyed the camp. Students will work on dance, voice, acting, and auditions. A flyer is attached with more information. You can also email Lauren Sarazen at ltsarazen@gmail.com with any questions. The camp is open to incoming freshmen through 2018 graduates from any school. Please feel free to pass this flyer on to anyone who might be interested! Please note that there is an "early bird" discount for those registering by June 1. 2017-18 Drama Club Parents Coordinators
Dear students and parents,
The 2018 North Hills Drama Club Gala is approaching quickly! The show starts at 7:00 pm Friday in the high school auditorium. Participating students should bring all costumes, props, etc. with them to school Friday and then plan to stay through until showtime. Dinner will be provided by the Drama Club. A few notes for those participating:
As always, email nhdramaparents@gmail.com with any questions. We're looking forward to an entertaining showcase of our students' impressive talents in singing, acting, and dancing. Hope to see you on Friday! 2017-18 Drama Club Parents Coordinators Dear "Dames at Sea" cast, crew, orchestra members, and parents, As you may already know, North Hills is participating in the 2018 Gene Kelly Awards, which honor excellence in local high school musical theater. Tickets to the ceremony--held at the Benedum on Saturday, May 26--are only available by ordering through a participating school. We believe the Kelly nominations will be announced around May 9. The North Hills ticket order will be due just a day later! This means we need to get a group order organized now, even though payment for your tickets is not due until May 14. Please look over the attached form and think about the different scenarios for the nominations, and whether you might want to attend under each of these scenarios. Again, tickets are not sold to the general public, so think about any family and friends who also may want to attend. Complete this form and return it to nhdramaparents@gmail.com by Thursday, May 3. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Regardless of nominations, we can all agree the kids did a fantastic job on the show! 2017-2018 Drama Parents Coordinators
