Members of the middle school’s 8th Grade Band, Wind Ensemble, 8th Grade Orchestra, and Concert Choir performed for judges at the High Note Festival held at the Mary Pappert School of Music on Duquesne University’s campus on May 22.

All four ensembles earned a Superior rating and high praise from the adjudicators, who spent several minutes providing feedback to the students immediately following their performances. As part of the festival experience, students were given the opportunity to spend the afternoon at Kennywood Park. 

​Music teachers accompanying the students to the festival include band directors Lucas Beaver and Tom Hartwell, choral director Shaun Cloonan, orchestra directors Allie Craig and Nick Vranesevic, and music teacher Matt Hickly.

The North Hills High School Drama Club has received six nominations for the prestigious Gene Kelly Awards for its spring production of "Mamma Mia!," recognizing excellence across multiple aspects of the performance.

Congratulations to the NHHS Drama Club for winning the award for Outstanding Lighting Design!

North Hills earned nominations in the following categories:
  • Outstanding Musical
  • Outstanding Actress: Parker Pile (Donna)
  • Outstanding Crew/Technical Execution
  • Outstanding Dance Ensemble
  • Outstanding Lighting Design
  • Outstanding Scenic Design

Launched in 1991, the Gene Kelly Awards celebrate outstanding achievement in high school musical theater throughout Allegheny County. Over the past three months, a panel of adjudicators, including educators, administrators, and industry professionals, attended performances at 34 high schools. Final scoring was tabulated by Deloitte LLP, the program’s official auditor.

The 2026 Gene Kelly Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 23 at the Benedum Center. The event will feature group performances by students from participating schools, along with medleys showcasing nominees for Outstanding Actor and Actress.

​In addition to more than 34 awards, several cash prizes and university scholarships will be presented.

The Choral Parents Association is excited to celebrate our choir seniors at our annual banquet on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:30pm in the High School Cafeteria.  The catered dinner is open to all high school choir members and their families.  After the dinner, a slide show honoring all of the seniors and their time in the program will take place, and each senior will be recognized individually.  Please click the SHOP button to reserve your space at the banquet!

On Friday evening, April 24, the North Hills High School Drama Club celebrates student talent and achievement in the annual Showcase. The student-run program features performances by members of the drama club and includes a group finale number.  As part of the program, students who are joining the International Thespian Society will be inducted, 2026-27 officers will be introduced, and the class of 2026 seniors will be recognized. It begins at 7pm in the high school auditorium.
