FALL 2024 ONE ACT PLAYS

10/18/2024

Picture
Members of the North Hills High School Drama Club will present three student-produced one-act plays on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 pm  and Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 pm. Each play has a student production team including a director, stage managers, light and sound operators in addition to the cast and crews. Under the supervision of adult staff, the production teams put together all aspects of the shows from rehearsal to performance, providing visions for scenic, costume, and lighting design.

APPROPRIATE AUDIENCE BEHAVIOR by Ian McWethy (comedy)
Carol and Ashley are expecting a tale of woe as they take their seats to watch Hamlet, but the real tragedy is that they’re sitting next to the world’s noisiest weirdos. The audience takes the spotlight as everyone from a cough-drop obsessive to a guy watching the play like a football game steals the show from the unseen Shakespearean masterpiece. An outrageously meta comedy that reminds us of where the drama belongs--onstage.

DO-OVERS by Gwendolyn J. Kandt (drama)
Did you ever wonder what might have been if you had said or done something differently? And who hasn’t had a moment when they’ve wished they could simply reset — and start over? At a local Cajun restaurant called Pappa Jeaux’s, a young man is getting a bite to eat while he ponders what to do with his first commission check. Soon, the restaurant fills up with more customers: 4 former high school friends who are reconnecting; a new marketing manager from NYC meeting his Louisiana boss for the first time; a lonely girl with a lot on her mind; and a charming Southern waitress with hidden problems of her own. At pivotal moments throughout, the story stops and “rewinds,” giving characters an opportunity to make different choices about what they say or how they act or react. Some of those choices end well, and some end badly. And sometimes the characters genuinely have no idea the repercussions of their behavior, even as the audience is left to see the value of honesty, generosity, and genuine connections with others.

AFTER HOURS by Kevin Stone (comedy)
All is quiet on the storefront as the owner of a small clothes shop locks up for the night. Little does she know that when the lights go out, activity in her store really picks up! 2 lively mannequins, LuAnn and Patty, have been waiting all day for a chance to loosen up. When they discover fellow mannequin Danny in a mistakenly delivered crate, the night really gets interesting! He not only gets out of his box, but he also thinks outside the box when a pair of bungling burglars breaks in. With Danny taking the reins, the mannequins show the crooks who the real “dummies” are, playing games with their minds, frightening them out of their wits and sending them on their way! To add to the fun and suspense, the burglars and mannequins are almost caught by the near-sighted security guard and some late-night window shoppers.

Tickets are $7 each for reserved seating and can be purchased beginning October 18 at www.nhchoiranddrama.net. The NH Drama Parents & Friends Association will also have raffle basket items available in the lobby during intermission to raise funds for the drama program at North Hills.
