Choir's MAdrigal Dinner Returns Nov. 19

11/1/2022

Hear ye! Hear ye! After a 2-year hiatus, the North Hills High School Choir's annual Madrigal Dinner event will return in-person! Join us Saturday, November 19 at 6:30PM in the Fellowship Hall at Hiland Presbyterian Church, 845 Perry Highway (note change from the originally published date and location on the district's printed calendar).  Sponsored by the NH Choral Parents Association, this event brings to life the medieval banquet feasts in a holiday themed night of music, drama, and dinner!

The room will be transformed into a Renaissance era castle banquet hall and the evening will include a royal procession, singing and entertainment. The evening will include a home-cooked pasta meal prepared by the parents and served by choir members, while the Madrigal Players will present a 15th century-style skit in period costumes with music provided by the Madrigal Choir composed of North Hills students.

This year's skit presented during dinner, "Murder Most Fowl," features a strange man who comes into the Kingdom, with something to sell. But this isn’t just any something. This is a goose – and no ordinary goose at that. This is the famous goose that lays the golden eggs! Or is it lies the golden eggs? Well, someone is lying, to be sure, and that’s the least of the transgressions being committed. Before too long the goose is cooked, and the Jester, Mertonsire, and Gossage the Goose Seller are the three main suspects. Luckily, the finest detective in all the Kingdom, Second Assistant Inspector Detective Upson Downey is on the case, and with the audience’s help, the goose-slayer is found, and justice is restored.

Following the meal, Madrigal Choir members will perform a mini concert of traditional holiday carols.

Raffle baskets will be available during the evening. Proceeds will benefit the North Hills Choral Program's continuing activities including this spring's music department tour to New York City and Messiah University.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased with a credit card or reserved online at www.nhchoiranddrama.net. Seating is limited, so reservations are strongly encouraged.

CHECK PLEASE by Jonathan Rand
Dating can be hard, especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac or your grandmother’s bridge partner, or a mime. Check Please follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn’t get any worse – until they do. Could there possibly be a light at the end of the tunnel?

GOSSIP by Brian Hampton
A group of high school theatre students befriends a charming, yet sinister new student named Gossip.  She immediately makes herself right at home as she secretly manipulates and twists the truth to get what she wants.  But as her new friends begin to figure it all out, they turn on her as ruthlessly as she went after them, leading to a surprisingly twisted ending.

THE LAYOVER by Tracy Wells
A couple of oddly intrusive passengers. A perplexing older couple. New parents. A loud family with a bratty kid. This is the company Dana keeps while she waits in a crowded airport for her next flight to ...well... to wherever she’s going. But not all is as it seems while Dana, a self-proclaimed “bad girl,” tries to pass the time during this never-ending layover.

Each show has a completely student-run production team and cast, including director, stage managers, light, sound, props, costume, hair & make-up, and promo crews. Auditions, rehearsals, and technical aspects have been overseen by adult staff, but the actual evening will be run by the students.

Tickets are $7 each for reserved seating and can be purchased beginning October 21 at nhchoiranddrama.net.  The drama parents will also have baked goods and raffle basket items available in the lobby during intermission to raise funds for the drama program at North Hills.
