On Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 7:00pm in the North Hills High School auditorium, nearly 70 students both on and off-stage will present 3 different one act plays.
Cheaters, a drama written by Don Zolidis takes place in a school. Someone cheated on the test. And if the cheater doesn't confess, the entire class will fail. Those are the rules set out by the assistant principal and their teacher as the students walk out of the room. Now the entire class is forced to play detective and discover the cheater before it's too late. But what if everything isn't as it seems? Who are the liars and who is telling the truth? With the pressure on, the class fragments into warring factions with each student trying to figure out the mystery. High-Rise High Jinks, a comedy written by Ken Preuss, shares short scenes from several different tenants in a high-rise apartment building. In one apartment, the new occupant wants to contact the spirit of the previous tenant, while her skeptical friend seeks only pizza. On another floor, Emma plans for a quiet night of reading, but her roommate has far different expectations. And then there’s 18-year-old Claire trying in vain to assume the identity of her brand-new fake ID. Finally, we see Tess tutor her single friend Kip in the art of letting go so he can embrace new possibilities. Or maybe she just wants to help him clean his apartment?! Twitch, a comedy written by Stephen Gregg, involves meeting new neighbors. Nancy and Don, a young married couple, are arguing over the new neighbors. She thinks they're watching them. Don thinks she's imagining things. But why did the new neighbors cut down the tree between their houses? And what happened to the previous neighbors who vanished overnight with no warning? As the doorbell rings, Don asks why, if she dislikes them so much, did Nancy invite them over? "I didn't," says Nancy, "you did." "No," says Don, "you did." But it's too late. There stand Emma and Aiden, the new neighbors, who are every bit as strange as Nancy said they would be. Now Don and Nancy are torn between wanting to find out who they are and wanting to get rid of them. Emma and Aiden have an agenda of their own, and it's stranger than anyone could have imagined. Each show has a completely student-run production team and cast, including director, stage managers, light, sound, and costume crews. Auditions, rehearsals, and technical aspects have been overseen by adult staff, but the actual evening will be run by the students. Tickets are $7.00 each for reserved seating and can be purchased beginning October 22 at nhchoiranddrama.net. All those attending are required to wear masks while in the building, and students will be masked while performing. THANK YOU ALL for your patience and understanding during this complicated process! We read through all of your forms, scored all the auditions, and rewatched all of the callback videos to create three wonderful groups of drama students. I appreciate those students who reached out to play understudies/non-speaking characters. We were so impressed with the auditions and wanted to include as many actors as possible in this experience. Some of you indicated "If I am not cast, I do not wish to participate in another capacity." Those names will not appear on the lists. If you didn't submit your Participation Form on time, your name may not appear on the lists. Please note, we had WAY too many students sign up for Lighting Crew. We are unable to accommodate a large group of lighting students, but really wanted to work with you on the productions! Therefore, we placed some students on the Costumes(+Props/Hair/Make-up) teams instead. If you are uninterested and wish to decline, please let me know. We'd love to see you back for the spring musical! Student Directors, Stage Managers, Assistant Stage Managers, Understudies, and Cast Members are asked to stay after school on Thursday, September 16 to read through the scripts. Please meet in the auditorium right after school and stay until 3pm! Student Directors, Stage Managers, Assistant Stage Managers, Lights, and Costume crews will stay after school on Friday, September 17 to discuss plans for the shows. Please meet in the auditorium right after school and stay until 3:30pm! ![]()
