"Memories that never die..."
In an effort to keep the legacy of the North Hills Choirs' tradition of excellence alive, a digital archive history project has begun. Unfortunately, over the years since the North Hills School District was formed and staff has changed, most of the historical documents that may have been at one time held in an archive have disappeared. This project intends to fill in as many gaps as possible so that the wonderful stories and details of the "glory days" are not gone forever.
Efforts are already underway to convert all of the old vinyl albums from as far back as the "West View Chorus" under the direction of Alice Conner to digital files. Once that piece of the project is complete, a way of distributing the files on CD or online will be created.
Now, a group of alumni are gathering information to nominate former NHHS Choral Director Mr. Frank Cummings into the PMEA Hall of Fame. This has prompted a call for specific details from his time as director - dates of key performances, awards won, trips taken, special honors received, etc. Comments and responses have been flowing in on the two Facebook groups: "North Hills Alumni Choir" and "I Sang Under Frank Cummings at NHHS."
The goal is to compile as many details as possible and to create a timeline of events on this site outlining the history of the choral program at North Hills High School. A gallery will also be posted featuring photos from trips, performances, scans of programs, and other memorabilia submitted by North Hills Choir alumni.
Help Us Out!
To help in piecing together the complete history of the North Hills Choirs, please click on the link below to submit information. Dates of trips, special performances, awards won (as specific as you can be!), groups that existed (mixed ensemble, men's ensemble, etc.), and any other information you think would be important to share. Also, you may upload files such as old photos, scans of yearbook pages or old programs, and others to be added to the gallery. Please share this link with as many former North Hills Choir members as possible. The more information we receive, the more complete our historical account will be as we continue to be "true to North Hills High."
