Details are in the beginning stages of planning, but as of now, the intent is to create a mini-reunion weekend with a time to share memories and also make music together. The very tentative schedule would be as follows (with input appreciated):
Friday, October 3 For anyone who may be traveling in and would like to have a less formal social gathering, we would reserve a room at an area restaurant/bar, such as Seib's Pub. The NH Choir would foot the bill for some appetizers; drinks and additional food items would be on your own. This would likely happen around 7:00-10:00PM. Saturday, October 4 Morning (probably 10AM) - tours of both buildings on campus led by current choir members for those interested. As the building that is now a middle school was at one time the high school, some folks may like to see how it has changed. Some renovations to the building are scheduled for this summer, including new flooring in the hallways and air conditioning. A tour of the high school building will also take place -- some may not have seen the choir room since it's relocation to the end of the hall after the renovation in 2007. Lunch on your own 1:00-4:00PM Alumni Choir Rehearsal - location will depend on the response. If we are over 150 singers, we will meet in the middle school as the stage is larger and will more comfortably accommodate us. Less than 150 and we should fit in the high school. 4:30-6:30PM Catered Dinner - location could be the school cafeteria, or it could also take place off-site at a place such as the Holiday Inn McKnight Road, MonteCello's, etc.. A cost per plate would likely be associated with this meal, and guests/spouses/families would be invited to attend as well. 7:00PM Line-up and warm-up for concert, group photo taken 7:30PM Alumni Choir Concert, featuring music representing choirs of the Frank Cummings, Sue McKinney, Harriet Valliant, and current group. The auditioned North Hills Singers group would also perform a set as part of the program. Of course, the conclusion would be the North Hills Alma Mater. The concert would be free and open to the public. A recording would be made available for sale to all singers and their families.

Please don't forget Alice Connors. She was officially the first choral director at North Hills from 1958-1962 having come from West View High School. There are still one or two members of her choir around that might be interested.

North Hills School District will hold its first Alumni Choir Reunion and Concert on Oct. 4 welcoming back singers from throughout the decades for the special event.
All former members of the North Hills High School choirs are invited to attend the event this fall. Singers will participate in special activities including building tours and memorabilia sharing throughout the day and come together to prepare choral selections for an evening public concert that will mark their return to the North Hills stage. The event was inspired by a recent gathering of choral alumni who organized themselves to honor long-time choral director Cummings’ 85th birthday. Nearly 30 of Cummings’ former students prepared a short performance and shared memories with him at his nursing facility. Choral alumni contacted Cloonan expressing interest in a larger, more formal reunion, and plans were set in motion. For questions or comments, contact NHHS Choral Director Shaun Cloonan at [email protected] Also, join the "North Hills Alumni Choir" Facebook group. Lots of great discussion is happening there! |
